vid Greenfield is the 108th President of the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM), with over 20 years of leadership in the resources and circular economy sectors. Starting his CIWM journey in 1999 as a Young Professional, he became a member in 2002 and soon took on leadership roles, including international representation and chairing key initiatives. A serial ecopreneur, David founded or co-founded innovative organisations like SOENECS, Tech-Takeback, and etsaW Ltd, and advises multiple startups including Biohm, Uplift 360, Mariinatex and Packamama. He has created high-impact projects such as the Waste Improvement Network (WIN) and Pothole-Spotter for the Department for Transport. His work blends technical expertise with policy influence, advising UK government departments (DEFRA, DESNEZ), contributing to EU programmes, and authoring strategic circular economy plans and LCA’s for several local authorities and companies. As Vice President of the Circular Economy Institute, he advocates for regenerative design and system-wide change, while championing local delivery through Circular Economy Club London. As a Visiting Professor of Circular Economy at the University of Brighton, and dedicated mentor and educator, David continues to drive innovation and sustainability globally, fostering the transition from a linear to a circular economy.
