Cathy Cook – LARAC Chair

Cathy has been a member of the LARAC Executive since June 2020, and became Chair of LARAC in January 2022. Her role as LARAC Chair is to be the ‘leading voice’ for Local Authorities across the UK, and to provide information, support and advice. In this regard, Cathy regularly liaises with key stakeholders including DEFRA, WRAP, NAWDO and the ESA.  Cathy has over 25 years of experience in Local Government, 15 of these within the waste sector, working both strategically and operationally.  Currently, Cathy works for ReLondon, working with all of London’s waste authorities, the Greater London Authority (GLA) and other stakeholders to support Local Authorities to improve their recycling performance by offering policy advice, completing research and project managing pilot schemes to further develop robust information and data.  Prior to starting work with ReLondon, Cathy held the post of Senior Recycling Officer at Rochford District Council in Essex and introduced a new recycling scheme – one of the first to include alternate weekly collections – which resulted in it becoming the top Recycling Authority in the UK.
